360 degree feedback is a very powerful tool to
raise self awareness and can serve as a strong spur
for development and behaviour change.
It is a very good companion to support coaching,
learning and development as it acts as a pair of
“outer eyes” generating multiple perspectives of how
others see you as a person, how it is seen that you
behave and act to others as well as how you see
yourself.
The process involves inviting a range of
colleagues, direct reports, managers and customers
to complete a multiple choice questionnaire on which
they anonymously answer questions relating to your
usual behaviour in various situations. You also
answer the same questionnaire about yourself in
relation to these behaviours. The responses are
mapped to give a detailed picture of how you see
yourself and how others see you.
A feedback report is provided, which is supported by
one to one coaching discussions which concentrate on
exploring and understanding what the data says,
generate a balanced perspective and thoughts about
overall strengths as well as development areas.
360 degree feedback
is used in many organisations today. The benefits
include:
- Increased understanding of the behaviours
required to improve individual and
organisational effectiveness
- Better focussed development activities built
around the skills and competencies related to
successful organisational performance
- Increased employee involvement and
engagement
- Increased ownership of self development and
learning
